Not everyone has the personality traits required to work remote productively, even if they have thought they have good habits.



Below is a list of 5 traits one must have to effectively work remotely.


1. Self-motivation

This is perhaps the single most important trait you will need to thrive remotely Working alone has its perks, however, you must be willing to put in the work.

If you’re working for a company as a contractor or employee technically you are you own boss. Taking breaks being on time, turning in work on time and being a team player are all essential tasks to adapt to remote work.

2. Effective communication skills

Effective communication skills are not only crucial for remote workers they're an absolute necessity. Since most of your communication will be conducted via phone or email, being able to express yourself clearly and unmistakably is critical. When communicating virtually, being able to convey your intended message is sometimes trickier than you think. Learning the nonverbal email and chat workplace etiquette will be imperative to most any employer and staff. Spelling and grammar are a must. Don’t be ashamed to use grammar tools to help with minor errors while typing.


3. Originality

Working remote requires you to make decisions if there is no one available to ask those hard questions. There will be many times when you're faced with an issue and there’s no one to consult with.

During those times to need to be a critical thinker Do you feel confident handling the sporadic crisis on your own. These are important traits when you work independently.


4. What is your tech-savviness level?

When working remote you will not have the luxury of an IT department. When your computer crashes or you need to set up a live video conference, or you have a remote meeting via chat video or voice com

Are you able to troubleshoot computer, network, or email issues? Are you comfortable with tools like Skype, Google Hangouts, Join.me, and Dropbox? Don’t panic when technology doesn't work the way it should. Understand that that is one of the cons of working remotely. How you react to the issue is what will make you an overcomer.

5. Self-reliance

Remote workers must have a high degree of confidence in their skills and knowledge and abilities Frequently you’ll need to make judgments calls independently without feedback, and you'll need to accept the consequences of your decisions. The last thing remote manager and supervisor want is to hold your hand through every decision-making incident. They are looking for confident self-reliant individuals to make their workload bearable. Don’t be that person who always needs self-assurance.
