The successful candidate will challenge current processes, drive continuous improvement and develop partnerships with internal business customers. In addition, this position has dual accountability, administratively managing our customer-facing risk-management system.


Responsibilities:

  • Issues loss-sensitive business on new accounts and renewals within an assigned territory according to established guidelines

  • Interprets and analyzes data and independently makes decisions on issuing policies and endorsements

  • Verifies policy information by discussing with the Account Manager or Underwriter assigned to the account

  • Effectively balances quality, timeliness, and productivity standards

  • Manages daily workload by negotiating deadlines with internal customers

  • Actively participates in projects that impact our team

  • Communicates regularly with internal business customers

  • Utilizes multiple systems on a daily basis to complete and manage work


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in multi-line commercial carrier operations is required.

  • Policy Issuance experience is required.

  • Associates’ Degree and/or insurance experience preferred

  • Strong organizational and desk management skills required

  • Mathematical and analytical proficiency required

  • Strong attention to detail

  • This opportunity will be hired as Senior Technical Rater (10) or Mastery Technical Rater (9) depending on experience. While this is a remote opportunity depending on location a future monthly in-office visit may be needed based on business needs.

The Claim Specialist must also be willing to share their expertise and contribute to broader claim goals by participating in audits, projects, and training initiatives. Other responsibilities include:

  • Provide proactive communications to customers and business partners in the management and resolution of claims;

  • Respond to inquiries from customers and provide superior customer service;

  • Review and analyze multiple complex policies and coverage parts (including general liability and umbrella/excess liability);

  • Write and articulate clear, concise and accurate coverage positions;

  • Conduct investigations regarding claims and/or lawsuits;

  • Effectively manage litigation and counsel, inclusive of litigation planning/budgeting, and proactively position claims for resolution;

  • Develop and persuasively articulate complex coverage, liability and damage assessments;

  • Provide detailed impactful recommendations to leadership;

  • Pursue and finalize coverage and liability risk transfer against other liable parties and insurance carriers;

  • Conduct complex negotiations and articulate coverage/liability positions;

  • Attend mediations and trials as necessary;

  • Proactively manage accurate expense, reserve, and financial transactions;

  • Consistently maintain up-to-date claims metrics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, required, JD is helpful

  • 5+ years general liability claim handling experience, required

  • Experience in handling affirmative/defensive risk transfer; including additional insured tenders, required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking ability

  • Ability to present in a roundtable setting with a well-reasoned and analytical evaluation

  • Experience in the creation and delivery of presentations

  • Superior customer service skills and active listening skills

  • Proven track record of prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities

  • Proven track record of effective negotiations/settlement of high-value general liability claims

  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Word and Excel

  • Active Property & Casualty State Insurance Adjuster license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years long-tail claim handling experience

  • Proficiency in handling litigated claims

  • Experience in analyzing personal and advertising injury coverage parts

  • JD or Advanced Degree.

Qualifications:

  • Business analyst experience preferred

  • Project Management, analytical mindset

  • Experience facilitating client calls and resolving questions

  • Requires knowledge of data analysis tools such as SQL and MS Excel including advanced formulas and functions, Ultra Edit, TOAD

  • Requires knowledge of Insurance claims practices, processing, and customer experience

  • Familiarity with electronic data interfaces (EDI) practices such as file feeds and Application Programming Interfaces (API’s)

  • Requires broad knowledge of the Group Benefit functions and applications, and knowledge of system and technology alternatives, excellent communication skills, strong judgment, and the ability to work effectively with client and IT management and staff


Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.



Team Leader Claims - ADA $76,240 - $114,360

The Claims Team Leader - Auto Damage Assessment will manage and direct claim investigation, compensability determination, disposition and settlement, in compliance with corporate claim settlement policies and procedures. They will seek to effectively manage allocated loss costs relative to budget guidelines and fully comply with statutory, regulatory and ethics requirements. This individual shall also, effectively communicate and teach a thorough understanding of business vision, strategies, and plans for achieving business goals. Through effective training, coaching, and staff development, they will enable optimal job performance and the achievement of individual and professional goals.
